One the most challenging aspects of teaching is how to effectively manage behaviour in the classroom. It is not a new topic but one that has been debated for decades and, as a result, there are numerous books, publications, websites and journals available on the subject that all contain similar guidelines for teachers to pursue in order to successfully manage the classroom. However, in reality the vast majority of this available information cannot prepare teachers for the reality of the classroom today.

These techniques focus on a range of strategies that establish trust and set clear rules for students to follow and the consequences of breaking those rules. These techniques are preventative in nature and are designed to remove the necessity for teacher intervention. Through the application of observation based assessment, teachers can bully-proof classrooms and identify talents as well as under-achievers quickly.
A well-balanced classroom where student behaviour is managed effectively creates a learning environment where students can excel and reach their full potential whilst minimizing the need for teacher intervention and disciplinary action. At the end of the day, it’s not what you teach but how you teach it that really matters in the classroom.
